Zen and Washing Dishes

I am often asked in what ways do I meditate, and the answer is many.

One of the ways I meditate is by doing housework, and one of the best ways to do cleaning meditation is by washing dishes. If you will, sit back, relax and let me explain the zen of dishwashing. Now please keep in mind that this is the old fashioned kind of dishwashing I am talking about, not the kind where you load up a machine and let it do the work.

First you have a big pile of dirty dishes. This pile of dishes could represent a particular problem you are having, or a lesson that you are currently experiencing. They have leftover food on them, they don't smell good, they make a big disorganized mess, is this starting to make sense to you?

Okay, so you start by rinsing, or scraping the leftover food off the dishes and organizing them in preparation for washing them.

So now, you have a less smelly, reasonably organized pile of dirty dishes. They are still dirty, but now they are in some sort of order, you have acknowledged them, you have recognized what they are offering you, and you are prepared to receive their lesson. (See how I am tying this all together?)

So now you wash out your sink, put in the plug, squirt a little soap in and begin to fill the clean sink with warm soapy water. As the sink begins to fill, you notice that each soap bubble is reflecting the light and creating a rainbow. Now you realize that your sink is filled with millions of tiny rainbows! What an amazing revelation.

So you have organized the chaos of your life in preparation for experiencing and accepting a lesson. You have made clean the receptacle of your mind and body, in preparation for receiving your lesson. And you are prepared to experience your lesson.

Slowly you set the dirty dishes into the sink containing millions of beautiful rainbows. As you lower the dishes, your hands are surrounded by warm flowing water, soft against your skin, and you notice that the tiny rainbows are now encompassing your hands and the dirty dishes.

You now are ready to begin the process of experiencing your lesson.

You move the dish cloth over the dishes, carefully removing all traces of old food and debris that was sticking to the dish. You run the dish under clean running water to rinse the rest of the debris that might remain, and the soap off the dish. You place the clean, shiny dish in the drainer.

You have received your lesson, accepted it into yourself, and replaced the chaos that it was with a perfect act of love.

This is the zen of dishwashing. I hope you find it as satisfying as I do.

In love and gratitude for all of my lessons, SisterSea

Selective Sight

Today I was involved in a conversation with someone, and walked away from the conversation a bit confused by the other persons words. So I had to ask myself, why am I confused?

And the answer was so simple, and so right in front of me. It was because the way I presented the information I was sharing with the other person was from my perspective, and the words they heard were filtered through their perspective, and the two were not in sync!

Everyday in life we have many experiences. Each of those experiences is filtered through our perception. This means that every experience, even one that is shared by other people, is different for everyone.

I know, you are wondering how this can be. If I see a brown dog walking across the street, and 10 other people are standing next to me, won't they see a brown dog walking across the street too? Alas, the answer is no, they will see something that corresponds to the other experiences they have had in their life that have formed and shaped their perception.

Allow me to explain. You see a brown dog walk across the street. To you this is nothing of consequence, after all dogs cross the street all the time, no big deal, right? Well, the person standing next to you, watching that same dog cross the street, just a lost a family pet because it was run down crossing the street. So that person sees an animal in danger, a very big deal, and their protection for the animal reaction sets in. They will try to run out into the street to save this dog.
And the person standing next to them was just recently attacked by their neighbors vicious dog. So that person sees a vicious animal in their vicinity, and their protection for themselves reaction sets in, and they turn and quickly go the other direction.
And the person standing next to that person is an artist. So they are examining the way the sun is reflecting off the different colors in the dogs coat, all of which just look brown to you.
Are you starting to get the idea?

Every experience we have in life, from the moment of inception, shapes the way we see the world. The blue sky above us looks beautiful to some and frightening to others, and will have no effect at all on still others. It will all depend on what experiences you have previously had with regard to the sky.

So keep this in mind when you are interacting with other beings, whether they are human beings or any of the other amazing beings that occupy this planet. The dog that looks friendly might just bite you if you get too close, because the last human it encountered hit it. The blackberry bush that is filled with juicy ripe berries, just might find a way to stick you with many thorns when you try to pick its berries, because the last creature that took its berries didn't bother to ask permission or to say thank you.

Always remember that each of us, while we are all one, is having an experience that differs slightly from your experience. Does this seperate us? No, I don't believe so. I believe that it gives each of us the opportunity to see things from many different points of view, if we will just take a moment to see things from another perspective. And if you don't understand the other persons perspective, take a moment to reflect on it. And if you still don't get it, just ask. Most beings will be happy to share their point of view with you!

Recognizing Spirit

I often have people come to me to speak about seeing the spirit in others, and the others they are referring to always seem to be other humans! I never cease to be amazed by this. Why? Because it shows me that in the constant struggle to be one with every 'thing' most people seem to forget that the phrase is "every thing" not "every person".

It is imperative in this time of change and growth that we begin to remember that every being on this planet, whether two-legged, four-legged, multi-legged, no-legged, rooted, seated, or in any other form, is just that, A BEING.

We must remember to be one with all the animals, all the plant life, the rocks, the water, the dirt, everything on this planet is alive and has a spirit, and TO BE ONE WITH ALL MEANS TO BE ONE WITH ALL. WE DON'T GET TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHO OR WHAT TO BE ONE WITH, WE MUST SIMPLY REMEMBER THAT ALL LIFE, IN ALL FORMS, IS LIFE, WITH A SPIRIT THAT WE MUST STRIVE TO BE ONE WITH. And remember, this applies even to forms of life that we cannot see, touch, taste, smell or connect with on any "sense" level.

So as you work very hard to remember who you are, and to connect with the universe, don't forget that the universe is vast beyond your comprehension. This is where you really begin to utilize your faith, and know that you are one with all that is, even when you don't know what that is.

Blessings to you in the oneness that we all are.

Pleasing everyone

Today I am going to speak about the human desire to please all the people all the time. I personally have been letting this desire run my life for a very long time. I have only recently realized that not only is it unnecessary, it really gets in the way of who I am.
So I suggest to you today, that you start to look at this habit very carefully. In order to truly examine in what ways you are applying this habit, may I suggest that you begin to listen very carefully to the words you use around different people.
This is is one of the first ways we can see how we are trying to please all the people. You will notice that with different people, you use different words, different speech patterns, different mannerisms, and you will also become aware that you segregate your subject matter, depending on whom you are speaking to.
I submit that if we are truly being ourselves, and if we are truly determined to be the best that we can be at being ourselves, then we need to STEP OUTSIDE THE FEAR THAT STOPS YOU FROM SPEAKING YOUR TRUTH TO ALL PEOPLE.
I know that at first this will be difficult, especially with people that have been a part of your life for a long time, both friends and family. And I know that you will really be in your fear when it comes to applying this concept to people you work for or with. But I submit to you that while you are in the process of living up to the potential that you truly are, being in your highest light, and knowing the truth of yourself, you must take this step. Because until you step out of the fear of speaking your truth at all times to all people, you will not be living in your highest light.
There will probably be many times that others will not agree with what you have to say, and that's all right. Everyone is on their own path, in their own progress, at their own pace. And not everyone is in the same place you are. In fact, you will not be in the same place you were in when you started reading this article by the time you finish it. So remember that not everyone has to be in the same place at the same time. And if they disagree with something you say, honor them with love and know that they are exactly where they need to be at this moment, and you are exactly where you need to be at this moment. It's all relative.
I also submit that by applying this practice, you will slowly begin to see that there may be people in your life that you have held on to, that it is now time to release. As we go through life, each on our own path, at our own pace, people come and go in our lives as our paths change and diverge. Accept this with love and honor the time you have spent with everyone in your life.
When you find that you need to release someone to continue on their path without you, do so with great love and compassion, and gratitude for whatever time they have been in your life. Accept whatever lessons you brought to each other, and know that in the greater scheme of things, we are all one.
Blessings to you on your path. Sistersea

From the Heart

I have been doing a lot of meditating lately about what it means to 'come from the heart'.
We hear this phrase a lot, and most people believe they really know what it means. I suggest that perhaps we really don't know what it means.

Coming from the heart is far beyond anything the mind can imagine. Coming from the heart means going beyond our thinking, beyond our body, into the light of the divine, and truly "feeling" from the still place within your sacred heart.

How can you "feel" if you are beyond your body? What I am speaking of is an acceptance of the divine within yourself. It is a knowing of being one with all, beyond a body, beyond a mind, beyond a planet, beyond a universe.

Once we reach this sacred center of our divine being, we truly are ONE.

If you truly want peace, joy and love in your life, you must first BE peace, joy and love. Not just thinking about it, not just wanting it, but truly being it. How do you reach this state? Quite simple, you learn to be still and hear the nothing that comes from going beyond yourself. If you are not currently practicing a habit of daily meditation, it is time to start. If you do not know how to meditate, there are many teachers that will happily instruct you. If you think you don't have time to meditate, then you need to meditate even more.

Meditation is not difficult, in fact it is the easiest thing in the world. It is simply a matter of focusing your mind until you can go beyond your mind to your heart. It is a matter of being still. It is a matter of quieting the outside voices so that you are open to receiving the voice of the divine.

Meditation is not about religious beliefs. Meditation is not about dogma. Meditation is not about ritual. Meditation is simply learning to be quiet. Once you learn to be quiet, to step out of your own way, to go beyond what you believe to be true, to be open to the possibility of something more, then you will be able to go into your heart. And once you can do that, you will see miracles occurring.

I am happy we are able to share this journey. I welcome you from my heart.

Accepting our greatness

As we travel through this journey called life, we learn many things. We learn how to be less than we are, we learn to believe in lack, we learn to judge ourselves and others, we learn non-acceptance, we learn non-love, we learn a lot of garbage!
Today I suggest that we begin to un-learn EVERYTHING!
So let's start by taking a moment to see ourselves. Pick up a mirror, or go to a mirror, and take a look at yourself. Don't judge what you see! Just look at yourself. And then, take a moment to hear all those voices inside yourself. What are they saying? My guess is that none of it is positive. So for this moment, please do the following: Look at yourself, and while you are looking at yourself, every time a voice comes up that says something not positive, I want you to say (and you can say this out loud or just in mind, it's all the same) I do not accept this, I forgive this, I release this, and I replace this thought with this, I am one with the Divine, I am perfect, complete and whole, and so it is.
And for every thought that comes to you that is not positive, repeat these words.
I know you are thinking that this won't be easy. And you are right. It is never easy to change old habits. But this is what you must understand, these thoughts that are negative or limiting are nothing more than old habits. Its time to break the habit!
So please do this just for today. And just do it for 5 minutes. Then tomorrow you can do it for another 5 minutes. Soon you will find that you are doing it more and more, and the more you repeat to yourself that you do not accept these old thoughts, that you release these old thoughts, and that you replace them with a new positive thought, the more you will find that your life is changing, because you are changing.
And always remember, every change you make in yourself, you make in the world.

Our children

Today I was forwarded a connection to a video on you tube that was done by a 20 year old about her future. This video was a result of a contest that was sponsored by an organization that caters to members over the age of 50.
The reason I am mentioning this is because the person who forwarded the link to me seemed to be amazed that this wise video was done by someone so young. Really!!!!!!!!!
What I don't comprehend is how anyone who has any connection with children in the world today, (and if you step outside your door you have to encounter children at some point) can have any doubt of the wisdom of our young leaders.
They have come and are coming to be precisely this, the leaders of the future world. Those of us that are here now are here for very different reasons. Some of us are here to help teach the young ones in the very beginning, you know things like feeding themselves and talking and walking, but beyond that they are eons ahead of us. Some of us are here to learn a last round of lessons before we transition to a different life form in a different plane of existence. Some of us are here to lay the groundwork for the work that is being done and that will be done. But none of us over the age of 30 are here to be the future leaders.
So get ready boys and girls, it's time to step aside and know the power of the young ones. They will teach you if you will listen.

You are in the perfect place

I have spent a lifetime trying to to remember who I am. Have you ever experienced this not knowing? I have read books, attended classes and workshops, watched movies, listened to teachers, and still did not know who I was!
But that has changed. How, you may ask?
I have decided to change my mind. As simple as that. I decided to throw away all the old things that I have been taught all of my life, and simply open myself to the information that the universe, in all its wisdom and glory, may wish to share with me.
It's really quite funny, as I think about it, the way this all happened.
As someone who at one time was what we commonly refer to as a type A personality, I was sure that I knew what was best, for myself and usually for everyone else around me. And yet, the things that I felt should be happening in my life, either were not happening at all, or were going terribly awry.
I reached the point that I was so exhausted from trying, trying, trying to make everything work the way I thought it should, that I just gave up.
I sat myself down, in the center of my living space, held out my hands to the universe, and said out loud, "Okay, that's it. I'm done. I no longer am in charge of anything. Everything I have tried has failed, everything I thought I knew has been proven to not be true, I'm just done. And I'm not moving from this spot until I receive further instructions!"
And there I sat, for an entire day and night. I had to sit long enough to stop the chatter in my mind. I had to sit long enough to remember to listen. I had to sit long enough to get out of my own way!
And low and behold, once I stepped out of my own way, quieted my own voice, and just listened to the silence, I began to hear something. At first it sounded like running water. Then I could hear the tiny sound of birds in the distance. Then I could hear the wind as it moved. Once I understood that these sounds were not from the outside world, I was ready to hear the voice of the universe speaking to me. It was not a loud booming voice, but rather a very soft, gentle voice. And this voice told me many things. It told me that I am one with the universe. It told me that I am loved. It told me that it was time for me to go forth and teach others about love.
And so here I am, prepared to share the experiences, both physical and ethereal, that have shaped who I am today. So you are in the perfect place to learn who you are as well.
So for today, be one with yourself. Look in the mirror and don't turn away. Speak your word and hear how it sounds. Tell yourself that you love yourself, and practice saying that until you begin to feel that you really mean it.
And for today, know that there is one other being on this planet that loves you.
And tomorrow we will talk some more.
